In the current economic climate, Filip & Comnpany expects an intensification of the requests for information and tax investigations and an increase in the number of disputes and tax enforcement procedures in Romania. Traditionally, tax disputes have been a prerogative of tax consulting companies, but law firms have noticed the clients’ need for highly dedicated and ultra-specialised services. This is why Filip & Company decided to establish a centre of excellence in tax disputes, administrative procedures and public procurement should be understood.
“We now have a unique opportunity to deal with those cases that require not only a “standard”, but rather a specific approach, based on an in-depth understanding derived from the experience with many different cases and focus on operating models that prevent and reduce the tax risk. Building on this rich experience, it is time to position ourselves as such” says Cristina Filip, managing partner of Filip & Company.
The recruitment of George Trantea - who joins the team of 14 lawyers under the coordination of Cătălin Alexandru, partner and Head of Dispute Resolution, on a counsel position, is also part of this development strategy for the law firm.
“Our dispute resolution team has extensive expertise in the so-called bet-the-firm litigation, in which the clients’ stakes are enormous. Therefore, we specifically need to collaborate only with the best lawyers. And George is an excellent lawyer”, says Cătălin Alexandru, lawyer with vast experience in both domestic and international arbitration cases and tax, commercial and civil disputes.
“It is a good time in my career: I am joining a team with whom I fully resonate on a human and professional level and with whom I contribute with all my experience to the development of the centre of excellence dedicated to our clients interested in the effective management of cases and complex tax and administrative procedures.”, says George Trantea.
George Trantea has been a member of the Bucharest Bar since 2008 and of the Paris Bar since 2013, his area of expertise being the settlement of disputes related to international tax and commercial law. He holds a master’s degree in private international law and international commercial law from the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, and his experience within law firms in Paris has helped him to have a European and comparative understanding of the clients' objectives and interests.
