RTPR Allen Overy and Mares Danilescu Mares in the Maspex acquisition of Rio Bucovina

Polish juice manufacturing group Maspex Wadowice has acquired Romanian mineral water producer Rio Bucovina, the transaction being subject to approval by the Competition Council. Rio Bucovina is the second largest manufacturer of water in terms of volume sales in the Romanian market, with a market share of about ten percent. As part of the deal, Maspex Wadowice plans to acquire three manufacturing plants in the cities of Vatra Dornei, Giurgiu and Timisoara. Maspex Wadowice president Krzysztof Pawiński said: “In Romania, we have a very strong position in the segment of instant products with brands La Festa and Ekland; the market for juices, nectars and drinks with brands Tedi and Tymbark; and in the category of crackers and pretzels with the brand Salatini. In the water market until now, we did not, and this is a category that is growing. The lawyers involved in the transaction were RTPR Allen Overy on behalf of the buyer and Mares Danilescu Mares represented the seller.Romania is the second largest market for Maspex after Poland, both in terms of turnover and investments made, as well as purchasing power. Currently Maspex Romania is known as a manufacturer of instant products, juices, nectars and soft drinks, pasta, crackers and pretzels. The company entered the Romanian market in 1996 and is now one of the largest Polish investors in Romania.
