Deloitte Romania announces two new partners

Deloitte Romania welcomes two new partners who have joined the firm, thus increasing the number of partners to twenty.

“I am happy that two experienced partners with extensive international experience have joined our practice. I am confident that both John and Steve will help Deloitte make an impact that matters by serving clients with distinction, offering exceptional careers to our people and contributing meaningfully to society,” said Alexandru Reff, country managing partner Deloitte Romania.

John Ploem has joined Deloitte Romania as tax partner and Chief Operations Officer. In this position, John is responsible for the internal services of practice, particularly in developing the support infrastructure and working with the newly developed European Delivery Centers in Romania.

In addition to his COO role, John will continue to be also a tax partner. With over 25 years of experience in international corporate income tax, John has advised clients on a large number of transactions and inbound investment strategies. Prior to Romania, John has worked in the Czech Republic, after living and working in Belgium as registered tax advisor with the Belgian Institute of Accountants and Tax Consultants. John served major clients across a wide range of industries including telecommunication companies, manufacturers and Asian investors. He speaks Dutch, English, French and German.

Steve Openshaw has joined Deloitte Romania as audit partner after serving in the Moscow office. In his time spent working in different environments, Steve has gained knowledge of the issues facing companies in developing markets. Steve has a deep experience of IFRS and its application across a range of industries including consumer goods, manufacturing, real estate, energy and construction. He has worked with FTSE 250 companies with projects on major acquisitions, disposals, fundraising and related shareholder investment circulars. Steve has led a range of due diligence assignments and worked with several companies on their IFRS transition projects.

Beside his audit responsibilities, Steve has held a number of senior roles and for three years led the CIS practice review process, which measures the quality of the audits in line with regulatory requirements, international and Deloitte standards. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (FCA).
